Though not the original survival horror game, Resident Evil definitely did its part to popularize the genre. Many different games that have a strong following now, owe a lot to this series and the precedent it set.

I had never heard of Rise of the Triad (ROTT for short) but i loved other first person shooters on the PC and was willing to try something new. Boy am i glad i did.

There are few movie to video game translations that have ever worked. Probably the only one that I ever cared about was Aliens Trilogy on the PSOne.

So there on the shelves along side movie greats like “Police Academy III” and “My Science Project” sit a large chuck of my NES memories. One game that i would rent about once a month was “Shadowgate”. Aside from the original Final Fantasy, and Bionic Commando, Shadowgate still stands out as a truly great game experience on the NES.

I vividly remember getting this game the year it came out for Christmas. From the second the title screen dropped in and the first stage started with that rendition of Cindy Lauper’s “Good Enough” I was totally hooked.
